The National Survey represents the pilot initiative aiming at providing the quantitative analysis of violence against women in Azerbaijan, its prevalence, outcomes as well as responses to these cases. The study has enabled the research team to investigate a number of interrelated factors that might put a woman at risk of being subjected to violence. While exploring the negative consequences of intimate partner violence the study also tried to survey the possible negative outcomes for the children of abused women.
Tackling the consequences of violence against women the study tried to address the following:
the impact of violence on women’s ability to continue her education, maintain her job and income,
keep up the contacts with the relatives
reveal the women’s coping strategies, including the use of any available referral mechanisms.
Even though more analysis of the GBV and the related issues is needed to be explored through further research the findings of the National Survey have a potential to be used as a strong advocacy tool for incorporating gender sensitive approaches into the existing state policies.
