Combating Gender Based Violence project (CGBV) implemented under the auspices of the UNFPA/Azerbaijan Program represents one of the pilot efforts aimed at creating an enabling environment for reducing gender based violence (GBV) in the country in order to ensure effective protection and promotion of women’s rights and fundamental freedoms as well as foster gender equality and women’s participation in decision making processes. The CGBV Project in Azerbaijan/UNFPA invites photographers to take part in the photo contest entitled “Stop violence against women” conducted in the frames of its countrywide awareness campaign on gender based violence. The photo contest is expected to be of enormous contribution to the CGBV Project’s efforts to raise awareness on violence against women in Azerbaijan.
Submissions
The submissions should consist of a photograph (either colored or black and white) illustrating the problem of violence against women in Azerbaijan. A photograph should be submitted in digital format on a CD and in print (A4 format) in a sealed envelope together with an accompanying written description of the main idea enshrined in the photograph. The background information on the photographer should also be attached. Please, note that each individual can submit up to three different photographs. Eligibility
Any professional and non-professional photographer with the exception of the UN/Azerbaijan employees is eligible to apply to the CGBV Project’s photo contest. The
photographs submitted should represent the original work of the author not officially published elsewhere prior to this photo contest. Selection process The final date for the submission of photographs for the photo contest is October 10, 2010. The selection process will take place in the second half of October, 2010. The respective entries will be evaluated by the panel of leading experts in the field of gender studies and photography. The entries will be evaluated in the light of relevance to the following criteria:
relevance to the contest topic
demonstration of creative approach
technical quality
Awards
Three winners are expected to be awarded respectively with the First, Second and Third prizes. In addition to this a number of small prizes to other eligible participants can also be given.
Publication and dissemination of photographs
The photographs submitted will be presented on the photo exhibition to be held in the frames of the 16 days of Activism against Gender Based Violence Campaign.
The photographs submitted will also be published in a leaflet as well as placed on the CGBV Project website www.genderbasedviolence.az .CGBV/UNFPA claims the right to print, distribute, publish and use the photos submitted to the contest with due credit to the photographer. Photos that have already been
published elsewhere or are the property of a third party are not eligible for the contest. The photographers reserve the rights to use and sell the photos to other clients. CGBV/UNFPA will not have rights to sell photos to any third party.
